We’re always on the lookout for the next big thing in home decor, so we asked our favorite designers about the furniture trends they think will be big next year.
Here’s a sneak peek at the latest silhouettes, materials, and palettes that are sure to be in style soon.
Curvy Lines
In upholstered furniture, curved lines have become an increasingly popular design element. Nearly all manufacturers, from the ultra-high-end to the budget-friendly, have incorporated soft lines, arcs, and curves in their furniture. For example, curved sofa backs and rounded sideboards can be seen in many new pieces. You’ll also see fluted and ribbed details on sofas, chairs, fireplace fronts, cabinetry, and vanities.
Matte Metals
Matte finishes are expected to be a hit with homeowners, especially in kitchens and baths. Over the next two to three years, fixtures with less shine and more matte finishes in stainless, nickel, and pewter will gain popularity. If you are looking for a motion-control or touchless faucet, brushed black or stainless finishes will be your best choices.
Vintage Items
Furniture trends are shifting from cheaply made, mass-produced pieces to those of higher quality with unique designs. Combining new furniture with family heirlooms will also be in vogue.
Investment Pieces
Although some things have gotten more casual over the past decade, experts predict that the trend toward incorporating luxury and formal elements into the home will only increase in popularity in the near future. More and more shoppers are investing in high-quality, well-made products that will last for years.
Wellness-Conscious Design
The trend of whole-home health will continue to grow in popularity next year, so we’ll see more designs with antimicrobial properties. Bronze and copper are stylish choices for lighting, furniture accents, and hardware on cabinetry and doors.
Textured Surfaces
We expect to see more textured fabrics in furniture going forward, including bouclé, tweed, and crushed velvet. Comfort will be in this season, and anything with a furry, nubby, or cozy look will be very on-trend.
Bouclé, in particular, is very popular in home décor right now. It’s being used on furniture, pillows, and throws, as it adds warmth and coziness to any room. As this trend continues to grow, designers will look for less common ways to use this material.
